These schedules provide the minimum retention periods for records created by local governments and have been approved by the State Records Committee, as required under O.C.G.A. § 50‐18‐92. A record’s retention period is determined by the historical, administrative, financial, and legal value of the information contained in the record, not the record’s format. Retention schedules apply to records stored in both analog and digital formats.
Note: For Municipal Court schedules, see the Judicial Branch Records Retention Schedules.
